Improv performance is about working with others to build meaningful, fun, and hilarious shows, and this fall Big Blue Door performances are taking some bold new steps! Well be offering our first ever Improv 5: Show Making for more experienced performers, and an Improv 4: Team Performance featuring a break from Harolds to build on experiences with audience interaction and improvising in a large venue!
This fall we present Dear Diary!
Dear Diary asks the Charlottesville community to bring old diaries, old love letters, journals, and other written mementos of the hilarious and embarrassing past! We’ll have invited guests reading longer passages, audience members reading short passages, and we’ll even let audience members share secrets anonymously by having performers to read. Improvisers will initiate scenes in an open-ended format based on the points of view, emotions, and unusual discoveries in the revelations. The whole team will work on keeping the readers focused, using time well, and managing the audience energy and interplay!
This is a big banger of a form for as many as a dozen improvisers with big hearts, sharp minds, and generous spirits. We’ll meet on Tuesday nights. This team will anchor the September and October Vinegar Hill shows, perform a short set in one First Friday show, and perform at the Magnet Theater in New York City on October 10th. Plus we’ll have a reprise at our Holiday Show.
If you can’t make the NYC show, don’t sweat it; you can still take this course!
Also look around to see if you have old journals, diaries, or letters you’d be willing to share for rehearsal purposes!
