Improv I starts June 4th!

SOLD OUT!!! See our NEW June 11th Improv I here! Join Big Blue Door this summer for Improv I: Character & Scene! It’s eight sessions and a final class performance that’ll teach you how to create life-filled characters and hilarious comic scenes! With Improv I: Character & Scene you’ll listen better, see your own perspective more clearly, and enjoy the humor of the people and world around you! You’ll even amaze yourself by how funny you!

Big Blue Door is central Virginia’s only course in ‘longform improv comedy’, the style of comedy that teaches you how to play fearlessly with other smart people, how to draw inspiration from almost anything, and how to find what’s funny and compelling in real human experiences! Whether you’re interested in becoming more confident and spontaneous, curious about how comedy works, or just looking to have fun and meet people, this is one of the best classes you’ll ever take! Taught by Big Blue Door co-director Joel Jones.

    1. In most classes all of our students have been post-high-school adults. When high-school age teens have taken classes, they’ve always dropped out. If you have a rising 9th grader who has familiarity with being in adult settings (maybe they do community theater for example?), then they might enjoy it. A good litmus test might be if they come to you and say they want to learn improv and you tell them they can sign up and you’ll pay them back.

We’ll hopefully have teen improv within a summer or two.
