Improv performance is about working with others to build fun, meaningful, and hilarious shows, and this winter Big Blue Door will be exploring monoscenes and second beats by bringing back one of our favorite forms, The Helix!
In the Helix performers create scenes inspired by audience suggestions of locations. First a location anywhere; then a location adjacent to the first; the a third location across the street from the first two; and a final location across town. The form spins through the locations again and again until the performers find common connections and the stories come together. We’ll be looking at creating scenes that play an idea in different ways with different tones, speeds, and comedic games, and practicing intensifying and remembering until the characters take on a life of their own.
