No one needs relief from the trials and tribulations of the world more than 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, so Big Blue Door comes to the rescue with real longform improv comedy training for middle schoolers. Big Blue Door’s Middle School Improv gives kids two hours a week free from cliques, castes, or social pressures, so students can revel in joyous parts of theater–imagination and creativity. In this 8-session course kids will learn to enjoy telling their own stories and performing in front of an audience! No auditions! No acting experience necessary!

For graduates of Big Blue Door’s Improv 1 (or equivalent courses in America’s other fine cities), Big Blue Door Improv 2 offers students the chance to lock-in basic skills while exploring new theatrical techniques such as “Second Beats” and tags and the “Living Room” opening.

ONLY 2 SPOTS LEFT!!! IMPROV 3: BEATS & BEYOND. For graduates of Big Blue Door Improv 2, Big Blue Door’s Improv 3 is the culmination of our basic program. Improv 3 explores groups and teamwork. You’ll learn to create group scenes, group games, and group openings; you’ll explore “Third Beats” and connecting story lines. Finally you’ll put it all together to perform the “Harold”–-the original and most popular longform structure.

IMPROV 4: TEAM PERFORMANCE. Big Blue Door’s Improv 4 assembles graduates of our three-level basic course into performance ensembles to present a run of shows! This winter we’ll be returning to the Harold and exploring analogous beats, conflict scenes, and changing tempos. Performance dates include Friday 2/6, Friday 3/6, and Saturday 3/28!
