This summer you need a backup! Husband, that is. Big Blue Door’s studio ensemble, Backup Husband is a troupe of comics who may be your safety school for spouses, but make them your first choice for laughs! This Backup Husband has your back! But just because they’ll wait for you, doesn’t mean you should wait to see them!
They’ll be hosting for the first show of the summer run, Saturday, June 2st at Cardinal Point!
And check out all their shows–and all Big Blue Door shows–here.

Adrienne Wood. Veteran Adrienne is a professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Virginia, where she studies social behavior. She lives with her husband, two hounds, a cat, and a new baby. She’s performed with many Big Blue Door teams.

William Edmisten. Newcomer William is a professional software engineer and now an amateur improv performer. Originally an introvert from the DC area, William recently discovered the joy of being on stage with improv comedy.

Sarah Adams. Veteran Sarah, a born and raised Virginian, works for UVA doing her dream job: neuroscience research. When she’s not geeking out over brain scans, you can find her with her improv troupe, at dinner with friends, or relaxing by the river — preferably with a furry friend!

Steve Sanderson. Veteran Steve has embraced a quiet, hermit-like life on a peaceful farm with his wife and a bunch of cats—three indoors, plus four outdoor strays. He rarely leaves home, preferring to write and record music, read, hike, game, drink coffee, cheer on the Red Sox, and, of course, hang with his cats. Check out his latest tune: Without You-Spotify.

Savannah Page. Newcomer Savannah works as a strategy and innovation associate at UVA’s Darden School of Business. Outside of improv, Savannah spends her time songwriting, exploring live music and local events with friends, and searching for the best sunset views in Charlottesville!

Alex Berr. Veteran Alex Berr is a comedian based in Virginia. While earning her PhD in Biomedical Engineering in Chicago, she started performing comedy and founded the sell-out science-comedy show, Uncontrolled Variables. She recently moved back to the US from London, where she was nominated for the 2023 Funny Women Award, the 2024 BBC New Comedy Awards, and performed her solo show, How to Kill a Mouse, at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe.

Lisa Brook. Veteran Lisa is a Charlottesville-based attorney and empty nester who turned to improv as a creative outlet and a way to shake up her routine. With her two daughters, Sophia and Chloe, grown and her cats only mildly interested in her comedic timing, she’s enjoying the challenge of thinking on her feet without a script. This is her first show with this group—and hopefully not the last.

Katie Noorbakhsh. Newcomer Katie thinks requesting a dismissal from federal grand jury duty is some of the best fun a US citizen can have. It involves standing on a stage while a panel of attorneys asks you questions and laughs at all your jokes. Getting out of grand jury duty is not a recognized hobby so she does improv instead. Katie also likes books, her family, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. She does not enjoy saying things like, “Pick up your socks,” and “No swinging sticks in the house,” but she is really good at it.
