Last Improv Show Preview & Lineup!

At Big Blue Door we’re getting extremely excited for tomorrow night’s Last Improv Show on Earth at the Vinegar Hill Theater! It’s coming faster than an asteroid about to hit the earth–but in a good way!

The Last Improv Show on Earth is Big Blue Door’s multi-group extravaganza of longform improv comedy featuring explorations of doom, gloom, and the end of everything we know. But it’s funny.

Tickets are $15 at the door or $10 in advance at this link!

Y3K

Our opening act is Y3K, Charlottesville’s first and only middle-school longform improv trio! Y3K features the comic skills of Kat, Lucy, and Ellie. They may be kids, but they will amaze you!

Hot Mom Foot!

Our main course features veteran Big Blue Door performers from our fall and summer runs returning to amaze and entertain you with some of the worst and most hilarious endings to humanity imaginable. It’s Hot Mom’s Foot, like a rabbit’s foot, but hotter and less lucky!

Adrienne Wood is a professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Virginia, where she studies social behavior. She lives with her husband, two hounds, a cat, and a new baby.

Jordan Breeding is a comedy writer and video producer best known for his work rebooting the Cracked YouTube channel before starting his own channel “Dr. Jordan Breeding.” He currently lives in Charlottesville with his wife and three kids.

Caitlin Levine. Caitlin is a social worker by day and works hard to give her two cats a good life. She is a member of the Virginia Consort vocal ensemble (with a concert on May 11, 2024!).

Ellie Black. Ellie is the somewhat dry baked good you get from mixing up sarcasm, wild curiosity, a pinch of anxiety, a dash of depression, and a healthy dose of enthusiasm for the human condition. Speaking of confections, where do you get a good donut around here? Ellie is married to the most amazing muffin, Janet, and they have two buttery little croissants, Jonah and Camille.

Robin Hyer. Newcomer Robin grew up riding gators in New Orleans and was once the Queen of Sugarcane.  She now lives a nice, noisy life with her patient husband, two free range kids, Labrador, saintly cats, and fourteen hens.

Kevin Sawyer. Kevin deep down wants to be a magical combination of Lynda Carter, Nell Carter, Catherine O’Hara, and Tina Fey. Kevin grew up obsessed with Kelly Kapowski, but secretly, Zach Morris. Kevin works for a finance company but promises he’s not THAT kind of finance guy. Kevin is originally from Chesapeake, Va. Outside of a 7-year stint in Shanghai, he spent most of his adult life in Charlottesville, where he now lives with his offspring. Kevin loves theater, music, and above all things – laughing. He is excited to kick off his Big Blue Door career. If you are so inclined to give roses after a show, Kevin prefers peonies.

The Administration

What’s a last meal without dessert, and this Saturday features the return of Big Blue Door’s team of coaches and teachers, The Administration!

Keaton Ray. Keaton is a personal trainer. He’s also an actor you might see performing in ads or shows on your very own teevee. He dreams of someday being in a horror movie.

Rachel Showalter. Rachel has a sharp sense of humor, which means many “regular” people are frightened of her. She’s considered quitting her day job to perform improv fulltime, but the spaceship offered her tenure. Her devotion to her offspring is apparent in the way she tenderly holds their secrets, unless she’s onstage. She is co-producing and co-directing the winter run with Deb Arenstein!

Deborah Arenstein. Deb has performed with Big Blue Door for almost 10 years, and credits improv with keeping her adult (and fabulous) children alive. Her offstage life also includes her nonprofit consulting group, Board Whisperers, Irishdoodle Libby, maj jongg, gardening, and reading as much as possible. She is co-producing and co-directing the winter run with Rachel Showalter!

Joel Jones. Joel Jones is the co-director of Big Blue Door. In addition to teaching improv, storytelling, and comedy writing, he is also a writer of plays, essays, and stories.
