Join us for Sundays in May (5/5 & 5/19) from 4-6:30pm for Big Blue Door’s Sketch Comedy Writing Workshop! Plus a ‘writing day’ in between. We’ll delve into how comedy scenes are written! This is a workshop for current or potential comics, screenwriters, playwrights, fiction writers, videographers, filmmakers, directors, improvisers, actors—anyone interested in how comedy works in stand-alone sketches or in longer works. No writing experience necessary! We’ll look at how funny ideas are turned into different kinds of comic scenes, focusing especially on creating characters, brainstorming situations that best bring out their humor, and constructing the ‘beats’ that create rising energy and interest. Finally the course will touch on parodies and relationship-games.
