Middle School Improv starts 2/3!

SOLD OUT!!! EMAIL info@bigbluedoor.org FOR WAITLIST OR TO BE CONTACTED FOR FUTURE CLASSES!!! Join Big Blue Door this February for our first ever Middle School Improv course! Saturday afternoons 2-4pm starting February 3rd, Middle School Improv will feature 8 sessions of real longform improv comedy training for 5th and 6th graders! ‘Longform’ means the comedy develops out of the scenes themselves with students free to draw on their own real conversations, observations, and experiences. And middle school kids have plenty of those! The course will get kids moving in mind and body with cooperative games, imaginative exercises, and lots of laughter to culminate in a group-created, completely-improvised class performance that will amaze family and friends!

The program explores the most joyous parts of theater and performance–imagination and creation. Instead of competition and stress, vying for parts or learning lines–with all the challenging social dynamics and criticisms–improv gives middle-schoolers the amazing experience of being fully themselves while working with other kids who are fully themselves, turning ideas and emotions, opinions and reactions into funny, lively scenes and characters! Improv builds confidence and humor that transfers to all types of performance from public speaking to acting in plays to team sports. Plus experiencing from the inside how scenes and performances actually work demystifies the entertainment world in a healthy way.

Taught by Joel Jones and Alanna Mahon. Bios here.
