Improv Summer Camp!

EMAIL info@bigbluedoor.org FOR AVAILABILITY!! Join Big Blue Door this summer for our first ever Summer Improv Camp, featuring an exciting week of real improv training for rising 4th, 5th, and 6th graders! Taught by Big Blue Door co-director, Joel Jones, this summer camp will get kids moving in body and mind, with cooperative games, imaginative exercises, and lots of laughter to build toward a completely-improvised class performance that will amaze family and friends!

The program explores the most joyous parts of theater, the imagination and creation (and takes a break from vying for parts or learning lines!). Improv gives kids amazing experience in being fully themselves while working with other kids to turn ideas and emotions into funny, lively scenes and characters! Kids learn confidence that will transfer to all types of performance from public speaking to plays to team sports. Kids learn from the inside how scenes and performance work which demystifies the entertainment world in a healthy way.

Summer Improv Camp runs 10am to 12pm in Big Blue Door’s studio in McGuffey Art Center. Class will be limited to 8 students of rising 4th-6th graders! On days when the weather is welcoming we may move outside.

Joel Jones trained and performed in New York’s Upright Citizen Brigade Theater, People’s Improv Theater, and Magnet Theater. In Charlottesville he has been teaching improv and storytelling for ten years.

Vaccines are required; masks are optional. Pro-rating and partial scholarships available!
