Feminine Hijinks III!

feb 2018 programming copy 2Feminine Hijinks started in the fall of 2017! It was so fun they stayed together for the winter of 2018, and now they’re back for the winter of 2019! Feminine Hijinks, Charlottesville’s all-female improv group, puts the ‘high’ in jinks and the ‘in’ in feminine. This is the group that’s so funny you’ll soil your petticoats! They’ll be performing this winter with Just Cause. Directed by Nauder Namaky.

img_4166 Susan Gorman is a passionate singer and dancer whose talents are vastly under-appreciated by her family. She also enjoys tackling the elusive skill of improv. Her day jobs include working at her family’s winery (cardinalpointwinery.com) and making leather toe guards for roller derby skaters (This is a true fact).

deborah Debby Prum is a transplanted New England native, banjoist, and fiction writer who took up improv in Big Blue Door’s second year after being prodded relentlessly by a friend. She was on Big Blue Door’s first improv ensemble, Lady Pills, and many since! She writes short stories, movie and book reviews, essays that air on NPR stations and in newspapers and magazines, and writes histories for young adults. She also teaches workshops on the craft of writing. Check out her latest doings on her blog.

SAMSUNG CSC Marjory Ruderman. Marjory Ruderman left her promising NFL career to join Big Blue Door’s improv program because of its slightly lower risk of concussions. She has performed with Mr Mammals, Colorblind Astronauts, Dancing Pilots, The Living Room, Product Placement and Feminine Hijinks.

Deborah Arenstein has been learning and performing with Big Blue Door for four years. She left her farm life of goat herding, manure spreading and egg gathering to move to the big city, fall in love, and become a star. Thanks to her amazing Feminine Hijinks cohorts and her supportive boyfriend Larry, her dreams are coming true. Outside of Big Blue Door she co-manages Board Whisperers, a nonprofit leadership consulting firm, is a member of Playback Theatre Virginia, and is on the Board (and has tread the boards) at Live Arts. She’s also a mom to two teenagers, which explains her slightly dazed expression.

Rachel Rachel Showalter acting career began with maxing out her credit cards studying Shakespeare at the Studio Theatre in DC. After underperforming at numerous auditions, Rachel found the improv community refreshingly supportive and co-founded Bright Young Things at DC Improv. She schlepped her husband and cat to Chicago in 2007, and continued studying and performing at iO, Second City and The Annoyance Theater. She moved back to Charlottesville in 2010 to raise babies and work as a UX Designer at Crutchfield. She’s very excited to be a part of Big Blue Door!

Jessie 1 Web Sized  Jessie Conover. Jessie is a law student by day and a law student on nights and weekends. Jessie came up through the Curious Comedy Theater in Portland, Oregon and performed in the San Diego ImPRIDE Festival with her old trio, Double Pretty. She knows some stuff about marine biology, building consensus, lit-tra-ture, and pro wrestling. In addition to Feminine Hijinks, Jessie has co-hosted and co-produced many Big Blue Door shows at The Bridge.

IMG_2418 Rachel Edwards. Rachel brings her energy as an enthusiastic storyteller, turning real life situations into comedic acts. Friends who referred her to Big Blue Door know if there’s been an awkward scenario, she’s lived it. A former news anchor/producer turned freelancer, Rachel now adds improvisationalist to her resume.
