November at Big Blue Door is like a brisk walk in a fall forest, if a brisk walk in a fall forest consisted of the best sketch comedy classes and improv comedy shows!
Start your month right with Big Blue Door’s First Friday Improv on Friday, Nov 2nd at 7pm! The first Fridays of every month are McGuffey Art Center’s official art openings, featuring new monthly exhibits in the galleries all over the building, and for November Big Blue Door joins the festivities with First Friday Improv. Our fall teams Latte Farm, Product Placement, and The Administration perform just for you! The art downstairs is free and our show upstairs is only $5 cash! Get downtown early (since parking is a beast), check out some art, sip some wine, and be upstairs by 7pm! (Follow the link for full info!)
All Big Blue Door performers take classes with us. In fact, sharing the humor, integrity, and joy of improv are the point of the whole shebang! Want to see what our classes do? There’s a free Improv 2 Showcase on Sunday at 4pm! Graduates of our latest Improv 2 course perform a ‘Living Room’ and a ‘Montage’ in Studio 20! What does that mean? Come find out!
Our spring and summer matinees have been so much fun that Big Blue Door’s fall ensembles Latte Farm, Product Placement, and The Administration are closing out our full fall run with a very special Fall Fun at Four Improv Matinee! What makes the Fall Fun at Four Improv Matinee special? Our groups perform in our McGuffey Art Center studio (Studio 20) at 4pm! The 90-minute show is done early enough for everyone to be ready for a night of dinner and gallivanting! What makes Fall Fun at Four Improv Matinee very special? You, of course! Why not join us afterward at local drinking and eating establishments to say hello and get to know each other?
Our monthly shows at The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative this fall have been an absolute blast! Great comedy and great cider! And we’ve got one more left! Host Nauder Namaky leads a lineup that includes Big Blue Door improv team Product Placement, plus who knows what else he has up his sleeve? The show is Saturday, Nov 17th. $10 cash at the door! Preview and lineup soon!
Our last show of November is the building block of all of them. It’s our Improv I Class Showcase on Sunday, Nov 18th at 430pm! Improv I is where it all begins. Some come check out the graduates of our fall Improv I course performing a ‘Monolog Deconstruction’ and a ‘Montage’ just for you! It’s free in Studio 20 at 430pm at the McGuffey Art Center!
Speaking of classes, we have two late fall workshops to help you get some much-needed late fall joy…
Our Sketch Comedy Writing Intensive is a 2-session intro into how comedy writing works! You don’t need any writing experience, just a desire to have fun! And experienced writers will love it too! We’ll look at sketches on shows like Saturday Night Live and Key and Peele to see how comedy writing is structured and organized. (Hint: It ain’t about plot!) Full info and registration here.
For graduates of Big Blue Door’s improv classes we have a special course that focuses on character creation. It’s our Character Workshop. Each of the four sessions is a stand-alone exploration of a different aspect of character creation, so performers can keep up with their busy holiday lives! (Follow the link above for full details)
By the end of November, Big Blue Door will have our winter class offerings finalized, including Improv I, Telling True Stories, and more!
