Thanks everyone for a great show last Thursday night at C’ville Coffee featuring OK Stupid, plus previews of The Helix, and Sleepover!
The third Thursday of every month is Big Blue Door’s Improv Night and 2016 Improv Night kicked off in style with an action-packed extravaganza hosted by OK Stupid. OK Stupid is a bad-dates and bad-dating comedy show. Brian Weisbrod and Nauder Namaky plus regular guest Max Hoecker, and special guests Finn Mehigan and Deborah Arenstein created scenes based on stories, audience interviews, and anonymous audience dating surveys for quick warm-up scenes and longer scene set in a playground.
Next we had a preview of the upcoming Helix run. The Helix creates scenes based on spirally audience suggestions of locations. Melissa Wender, Max Hoecker, Ryan Wender, Deborah Arenstein, and Larry Goldstein created scenes in a barber shop; a tiny house next door; an office building lobby with an antique train engine down the block; and across town a police station.
OK Stupid performed their fake improvised radio show, TJ and the Rooster featuring an interview with an imaginary Disney illustrator played by Finn Mehigan.
Sleepover had its preview after intermission. Sleepoever creates scenes with performers playing single characters based on an audience suggestion of advice they’ve recently heard. Shawn Hirabayashi, Nauder Namaky, Erik Swanson, Brian Weisbrod, Kirk Martini, JP Riggle, and Finn Mehigan started from the audience advice of ‘Don’t buy cheap nail clippers.’
OK Stupid was back to close out the night with a montage of scenes pulled from the audience dating profiles!
Thanks to C’ville Coffee, all the performers, and everyone in the audience for coming out!
