We finished our third season with a flurry of shows to beat the summer heat. Our Summer Harold Run played one final show at Studio 20 at McGuffey Art Center. Plan A and Mogli Mogli de Brogli united to retire in style. Kudos to their teammates Rosemarie Harper, Kirk Martini, Deborah Prum, JP Riggle, Brian Weisbrod, Max Hoecker, Nauder Namaky, Jessica Pascoal, and Erik Swanson for a great run! A fond fairwell to longstanding Big Blue Door improvisers Maya Hislop and Nik Hayes!
We also brought back the Big Blue Door Jam, after too long a hiatus. The theme was Milestones and our storytellers took us to places near and far, life and death, and passages along the way. Thanks to newcomers David Brents, Christine Alencar, Shawn Hirabayashi, and veterans Debra Weiss, Charlie Thornton-Gilliam, Yousaf Sajid, and Elizabeth Derby for sharing their great stories! Congrats to Shawn for winning the jam jar!
Our regular third-Thursday Cville Coffee improv show featured the full-fledged debut of OK Stupid, a show put together by Nauder Namaky and Brian Weisbrod to comically deconstruct their failures at dating. I sat in with them and had a blast as we used anonymous audience dating profiles to explore romantic failure in all its guises! DJ extraordinaire Max Hoecker even joined the group for the radio scene!
The month came to a fitting climax with a packed show by our summer Improv 3 graduates Deborah Arenstein, John Lawrence, Will May, Larry Goldstein, J. Ryan, Melissa Wender, and Rosemarie Harper performing their class showcase at Charlottesville Tango in the Glass Building. It was a double bill with Nauder, Brian, and Max performing a 50-minute version of OK Stupid. The packed audience laughed away the summer heat!
We’ll have pictures soon. (Thanks to Kirk Martini for taking photos of many of our events!) Thanks to everyone for taking our classes, attending our shows, performing in our shows, sharing your stories, and checking out our website!
We’re looking forward to an action packed September!
