January Wrap!

Pic by Elizabeth Derby Thanks everyone for making January a great beginning of 2015 for Big Blue Door!

McGuffey_4 We started the month with the First Fridays opening (January 2nd) of the New Members Show at McGuffey Art Center. The show featured work by Big Blue Door and all the other new members of McGuffey. Big Blue Door Jammers Maggie Thornton, Emily Kilroy, and your humble narrator, performed stories as part of the festivities.

winter term Winter classes began the following week with Improv 1 and Improv 2, plus an Advanced Harold Workshop (for graduates of our three basic classes). All three filled up, so thanks for helping us get the word out! Next classes start in March!

door slam Thursday, January 15th was the Big Blue Door Slam V at BON! Tom Clay, Lewis Reining, Laura Ingles, Clare Terni, Elizabeth Derby, Lauren Ballback, Raennah Lorne, and Emily Kilroy packed the house to share a vast array of stories from the amusing to the amazing under the expert emceeing of Yousaf Sajid, and produced by Jennifer Jones. Congrats to Clare for taking home the trophy and Elizabeth for winning the consolation loaf of bread! (That’s the bread above with the white seal in a picture that Elizabeth took.)

publicityBig Blue Door got a couple of nice mentions in local media. Raennah Lorne not only performed in our Door Slam (as a winner of a fall Jam) but wrote about the experience in Cville Niche. A live version of Debby Prum‘s essay ‘Expectations’ that mentioned Big Blue Door was aired at WVTF and other NPR stations. Debby is part of our resident improv team Hotdog Water.
