JUNE at Big Blue Door is like a big beach party to which you are all invited and at which there is something for everyone! We have seven shows (Our most in a month so far!) including improv, true stories, and a benefit for World Refugee Day. It’s like the climactic final fusillade of a fireworks display and a fitting end to Big Blue Door’s second season!
We start on Sunday, June 8th at 7pm at the Director’s Studio (Addresses at bottom of post) with the improv showcase for the Live Arts Improv 2: Cuts & Callbacks graduating class!
They’ll be presenting a form called a Living Room followed by a Montage. Want to know what that means? Come out and see! It’s free.
Improv 2 Class Showcase
Stick around and pay $5 for the Lady Pills & Harold at 8pm:
The Lady Pills are Big Blue Door’s first house improv team. They’ll be performing the ‘Harold,’ the original model of ‘longform’ improv developed by Del Close and Charna Halpern in Chicago in the 80s. The Harold takes a single audience suggestion and creates a spontaneous comedy epic of characters, situations, and themes.
The Lady Pills will be performing three Sunday night shows, each one completely original, unique, and spontaneous:

All 8pm, $5
Our biggest events at Big Blue Door are the twice-yearly Big Blue Door Slams, bringing back top vote-getters from our monthly Big Blue Door True Stories Jams to compete for the title of Grand Slammer. Our June Slam will be at a new time and place: Saturday, June 14th at BON downtown (Addresses at bottom of post). 8pm. $7.
Come out to hear some our best storytellers sharing true personal stories inspired by the theme of ‘Entrances and Exits.’

On Friday, June 20th at Cville Coffee (Addresses below) Big Blue Door celebrates World Refugee Day with a benefit for our local chapter of the International Rescue Committee.
Did you know that Charlottesville for a city of its size has a large refugee population? Come out and learn more about refugees in the area, where they come from, how they get here, what the IRC does, all while hearing great true stories and some great music. Plus a special appearance by our resident improv ensemble, the Lady Pills! All money goes to the IRC!
