Improv Links!

Our improv students come from all walks of life from UVA undergraduates, to firefighters, to scientists. One of our recent improv students, Deborah Prum is an author of several books including the wonderfully-named Fatty in the Back Seat and First Kiss and Other Cautionary Tales.

Well, she also wrote a cool blog entry on her website about our Improv Character & Scene class! And then wrote another blog entry later on the Writer House blog.

Our next Improv I runs on Sundays at Live Arts, starting January 19th.

Improv doesn’t have to stop with Improv I! Improv 2 radically expands longform scene and character techniques for more truth, more humor, and more fun. Here’s a talk by Tracy Letts (Pulitzer-prize winning author of plays such as August: Osage County) about his creative process. As one of his ten points Letts discusses using longform improv with Chicago improv duo, TJ & Dave, to develop material. The exercise he describes and many like it are a regular part of our Improv 2 class.
