Happy Easter and Happy Passover from Big Blue Door!
It’s a culmination of a wonderful March. Big Blue Door offered our first Sketch Workshop since last summer. It was a full class and a lot of fun. We were especially gratified since we’ve always considered script writing a partner of our improv and true stories classes and shows, but as a new organization we couldn’t focus on it as much in our first year.
We expect to run another Sketch Workshop in June or July, and more writing for video, stage and screen over the course of next year. Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested.
For the March Big Blue Door Jam we returned to our birthplace, The Bridge PAI, to pair with the Virginia Festival of the Book for true stories inspired by the theme of ‘books.’ It was a great show with newcomers and veterans, and in keeping with the festival spirit instead of a host story at the end we gave out stickers to everyone who promised to write a book by next March. We gave out a lot of stickers and look forward to the results next year!
Our April Big Blue Door Jam will be back at Moto Saloon for stories inspired by the theme of ‘Fools.’ That’s Thursday, April 18 at 8 pm.
Our biggest show of the month was not technically a Big Blue Door show at all. The Bridge paired with Random Row Books to produce the touring company of Bread and Puppet and Jen and I were both heavily involved in the organizing. Thanks so much to Ryan at Random Row, Sophie and Shawn on The Bridge theater crew, all the inflatable bed lenders, and Sara at Rev Soup for the sandwiches. Special thanks go to Harvest Moon Catering for providing the incredible dinner and breakfast.
March also welcomes Big Blue Door’s newest official staff member, Jude Silveira. Jude’s been involved with us as a improviser and storyteller since last summer, and we’re so happy to have him in a leadership role.
