TELLING TRUE STORIES
SUNDAY CLASS STARTS JULY 15 @ THE BRIDGE
Joel is teaching a course in Telling True Stories starting in July, cosponsored by The Bridge and Piedmont Council for the Arts. Sign-up is through The Bridge. This is a great class and it’s something we’ve been excited to bring to Charlottesville. It fits with our Big Blue Door Jam too.
Telling True Stories is a course of 6 sessions plus a class show designed to help you find the stories in your life and craft them into funny, moving, honest performances. The first four sessions consist of exercises, examples, and homework both to help you identify the incidents in your past that make good stories, and to teach you how to craft this material to draw in your listeners and take them on a journey. Over the last two sessions with Joel’s guidance and input from your classmates you’ll pick one of your stories to revise, rehearse, and perform at the class show. You just might find that learning to tell your story in front of a live audience is one of the most rewarding things you ever do.
Classes run on Sundays 6-8:30 PM: 7/15, 7/22, 7/29, 8/5, 8/19, 8/26 with the class show on Tuesday, Sept 4. The Bridge has been working hard to help us get this off the ground, but they are undergoing renovations for part of this summer so the Piedmont Council for the Arts has generously stepped in to offer us a space for the August sessions.
Course registration begins July 1. You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you want us to reserve a spot and send you a reminder before the class starts.
Thanks so much to The Bridge PAI and PCA for making this happen!
